Complex Modular Characters
Characters in Torchlight had modular armor sets with different breakdowns of pieces depending on the class. The character had armor restrictions that accommodated a large accessory at the hip, tabards and a large hat with less bandwidth for the torso, shoulders and gauntlets.
Restrictions on the maximum loadout for characters helped create a cohesive identity for the class while allowing for modular armor pieces that players could swap.
In addition to modular armor we also explored a dye system for efficiently expanding the colorways available for each armor set.
Concepting the ¾ views of the armor from thumbnailing to polish took about 2 weeks or 80 hours. Doing the orthographics took about a week or 40 hours.
Stylized Proportions
This character is designed for a personal project. Based off a pika, his proportions are relatively stylized but I wanted to maintain nods to historical costuming and detailed accessories that would look good at a distance given his small scale.
From start to finish including game cam views this character took 40 hours.
